Mark the date! 04th-06th of July 2024.

The KFO5001 is dedicated to investigating molecular mechanisms of pain resolution and why pain chronifies in some patients while it resolves in others. Our projects range from longitudinal clinical studies, characterizing patients suffering from neuropathic pain to animal and cellular models delving into molecular mechanisms behind pain and its resolution. We are happy to look into those subjects as well as life as a scientist with you!

If you are interested, find more information on our program below.

Programm Highlights

In this Summer School we want to explore mechanisms of pain and therapy as well as methods and models used in (pain) research with local and international speakers. We are excited to have visiting scientists Dr. Didier Bouhassira (MD, PhD) and Prof. Dr. Nadine Attal (MD, PhD) as keynote speakers! For further speaker updates, check our Twitter: https://twitter.com/ResolvePain. The program will be updated regularly, so stay tuned!

Download Program

Beyond the borders of the scientific program, we will look into the subjects of project management, career development, and mental health for young scientists. We are looking forward to fostering an exchange on these topics to help you on your way to navigate science as a career choice.

Poster Session and Spotlight Presentations

On Thursday, we will hold a poster session where you can present and discuss your data. No matter how far along you are in your project, we want to give everyone the opportunity to participate! So whether you're showing your project design and preliminary data, or have completed your study, show us what you've got and throw your hat in the ring for a poster prize 😉. Of course, all participants will be awarded a certificate.

Furthermore, on Friday and Saturday there will be spotlight presentations (approx. 10 minutes) for selected projects. Hand in a short abstract and gain attention and input for your work. Don´t miss out on this amazing networking opportunity and of course the chance for a presentation prize.

Seminars

In addition to our plenary lectures, we will offer seminars on chosen topics for a more in-depth discussion in small groups. For planning, we ask you to register for which of the seminars you´d be interested in.

Catering

We will provide catering throughout the day. This includes coffee and tea to your heart's needs as well as snacks from the morning onwards, and with our Lunch and Dinner you should not go hungry. Vegetarian and Vegan options will also be available, please indicate your needs on the registration sheet.

Social events

On Thursday we want to officially close the day with a get-together at the venue with drinks and catering. For those of you, who are looking to explore the city and night scene of Würzburg, we are organizing a Pub Crawl. This is an excellent opportunity to mix and get to know the other participants in a more relaxed atmosphere. We are looking forward to having a drink with you!

On Friday, we plan to have a guided tour through Würzburg's most famous wine cellar and a dinner afterward at the Bürgerspital.

They are a family-run restaurant with an offer of excellent traditional and regional cuisine and of course their own trademark of Frankenwein.

Please register for the above-mentioned events in the registration form so we can plan accordingly.

The venue

The summer school will take place at the DZHI (Deutsches Zentrum für Herzinsuffizienz) with a scenic view on top of the University Hospital Hills in Würzburg. There, we will have a big lecture hall as well as seminar rooms, and a foyer for networking and catering.
