Key information at a glance:
We, the members of the Junior Council of the KFO5001 Resolve Pain, are pleased to invite you to our Summer School 2024:
Mark the date! 04th-06th of July, 2024.
The KFO5001 is dedicated to investigate molecular mechanisms of pain resolution and why pain chronifies in some patients while it resolves in others. Our projects range from longitudinal clinical studies, characterizing patients suffering from neuropathic pain to animal and cellular models delving into molecular mechanisms behind pain and its resolution. We are happy to look into those subjects as well as life as a scientist with you!
If you are interested, find more information on our program below.
You can find the registration form HERE. Please send the PDF directly to the Junior Council: JuniorCouncil.KFO5001@ukw.de until the 29th of February. Make sure to also register for social events!
In this Summer School we want to explore mechanisms of pain and therapy as well as methods and models used in (pain) research with local and international speakers. We are excited to have visiting scientists Dr. Didier Bouhassira (MD, PhD) and Prof. Dr. Nadine Attal (MD, PhD) as keynote speakers! For further speaker updates, check our Twitter: https://twitter.com/ResolvePain. The program will be updated regularly, so stay tuned!
Beyond the borders of the scientific program, we will look into the subjects of project management, career development, and mental health for young scientists. We are looking forward to foster exchange on these topics to help you on your way to navigate science as a career choice.
On Thursday, we will hold a poster session where you can present and discuss your data. No matter how far along you are in your project, we want to give everyone the opportunity to participate! So whether you're showing your project design and preliminary data, or have completed your study, show us what you've got and throw your hat in the ring for a poster prize 😉. Of course, all participants will be awarded a certificate.
Furthermore, on Friday and Saturday there will be spotlight presentations (approx. 10 minutes) for selected projects. Hand in a short abstract and gain attention and input for your work. Don´t miss out on this amazing networking opportunity and of course the chance for a presentation prize.
In addition to our plenary lectures, we will offer seminars on chosen topics for a more in-depth discussion in small groups. For planning, we ask you to register for which of the seminars you´d be interested in.
We will provide catering throughout the day. This includes coffee and tea to your heart's needs as well as snacks from the morning onwards, and with our Lunch and Dinner you should not go hungry. Vegetarian and Vegan options will also be available, please indicate your needs on the registration sheet.
On Thursday we want to officially close the day with a get-together at the venue with drinks and catering. For those of you, who are looking to explore the city and night scene of Würzburg, we are organizing a Pub Crawl. This is an excellent opportunity to mix and get to know the other participants in a more relaxed atmosphere. We are looking forward to having a drink with you!On Friday, we plan to have a guided tour through Würzburg's most famous wine cellar and a dinner afterward at the Bürgerspital.
They are a family-run restaurant with an offer of excellent traditional and regional cuisine and of course their own trademark of Frankenwein.
Please register for the above-mentioned events in the registration form so we can plan accordingly.
The summer school will take place at the DZHI (Deutsches Zentrum für Herzinsuffizienz) with a scenic view on top of the University Hospital Hills in Würzburg. There, we will have a big lecture hall as well as seminar rooms, and a foyer for networking and catering.

The easiest way to get to the University hospital grounds is by tram lines 1 or 5 from the city. Then, you can get off at the station University Hospital D and take a short walk up to the DZHI. For 6€/day, you will also find parking spaces available at the venue.
If you are looking for accommodation in Würzburg, we can recommend the Babelfish Hostel (Haugerring 2, 97070 Würzburg), which is situated right opposite the main train station and has easy connection both to the summer school venue as well as the city center.
